Building Envelope Consultants plan design solutions, perform evaluations of existing roofs and walls, prepare construction documents, perform forensic inspections, monitor construction and serve as expert witnesses. BE consultants operate without prejudice to any processes, contractor or material.
An independent consultant provides third-party verification that the best interest of the building owner is met through all phases of the roofing or repair process. These interests include the expected performance, cost, maintenance, appearance and longevity of the system.

A Registered Roof Consultant (RRC), Registered Roof Observer (RRO), and Registered Wall Consultant (RWC) must not only possess the education and experience required to pass stringent testing, but must also adhere to a strict ethics code to offer service without bias or affilitation.

Of Note: Many times the decision to re-roof or repair an existing assembly is based on the recommendations of a sales person affiliated with a contractor or manufacturer. There are several inherent problems with this process:

• Sales personnel encourage products for their maximum profitability and this can lead to the purchase of materials which are not properly suited for the roof in question, or perhaps are even unnecessary.
• Contractors may quote roof systems that fit their current work force availability, those types that can be “turned out” the fastest or even those with excess material on hand.
• Some manufacturers and contractors now pose as a consultant/designer/material supplier. Many of these sales individuals do not have the expertise or education to properly design a system which meets current codes, nor are they properly insured.
• Projects utilizing an independent Building Envelope Consultant often find bids more competitive (fair pricing) and constructions crews more of an “A-Team” rather than a “B-Team”.
